Should I Cut?

Hey All,

Ironically the needle looks worse than anything else I planted and was curious if and when I should cut these fronds?

The suckers seemed to fare way better but the spear on the main stem is still firm. 55F today.

Thanks in advance

Nate

I’d let it be till spring sets in and it shuts the fronds off naturally... I have some selective dieback on my Medi. and even though they are primarily yellow/brown, I’ll wait till freeze chances are low...for my zone, around mid April. Fresh cuts subject to freezing may not be a good idea for the Overall health of the palm. Good the spear is solid. I think you’ll be pleased with its recovery...needles are great among cold hardy palms. I think you have minors...how did they do so far?

Ok I will wait, thanks for the info. The suckers look great but most the main stem fronds burnt. Glad the spear is ok.

My minors and Trachy look great, minors had almost no protection and saw 0F. Just burlap and frost cloth.

Here they are today - nothing below 20F forecasted for rest of February and March.

I agree wait until April or May.  You don't have anything to gain by cutting them off now.
