There are a number of threads related to this specific tri-genera hybrid, with posts smattered about here and there.

If you have one of these, please post an image of it and source if possible with any cultural notes including cold hardiness or observations related to its appearance.

There is very little data on these hybrids, and what is out there is disorganized. These seem to be more popular lately than even mule palms.

Here is mine.

Originally obtained through MPOM, I was informed this came from Patrick roughly 5 years at the time of purchase.

Has seen 19F in a pot on the patio without issue. Seems to want a lot of potassium to be happy.
It took an entire growing season (last year) to learn what it likes and doesn't.

Also - sorry for the crap photos - its winter... ya' know how it goes.

Here is mine, (BxJ)xS. Received from Patric in 2020, planted it spring 2021. Trial by fire this year, endured the record breaking PNW heat dome and drought this summer (I don’t water most of my plants) followed by the coldest winter in 30 years. Ultimate low was -8.3C and it was under an over turned wheelbarrow for protection during that event. No damage from that event, but it does look a little “ratty” from all the crap it had to endure this year. I’m hoping next year as it gets more established it will grow out of it and take off. A normal weather year would be nice too.

I wager I have the furthest north of one, at least in North America, so it will be interesting to see how it does.

Here is mine in Dallas after surviving 3F last winter. It was defoliated and spear pull, but here it is today almost one year after the deep freeze.

2 Patrick (B/J)xQ not much information about them yet I only acquired them a month ago the larger will go in ground this spring. Also a J/B F3x syag schizo, a little different variation. There are some J/B F3xQ out there. But I don’t know if I’ve seen anyone with a first gen J/BxQ I’d like to see one.

@TonyDFW That is quite remarkable. How long has it been in the ground?

Here is (B x J)x S growing in Dallas, TX z8b. It was acquired from Patric S and planted as a strap leaf plant in 2010.  It has endured quick dips to 17* unprotected and was fine.  One day prior to last February’s historic Valentine’s week freeze (3*F) it was defoliated, wrapped w/ a heating cable, cotton painter’s tarps and a waterproof tarp.  The leaves you see are what grew out between March to December of 2021.

So that’s a Patrick B/JxQ? And it survived what the yatay x jubaea did not? That’s pretty impressive for the B/JxQ.

Mine came from Patric Schafer about 6 years ago. Took some time to get it going. Always had nutrient deficiency but then I started fertilizing the heck out of it and boom it's growing quickly and Always looks lush green.

Beautiful! Glad to hear the yellowing/spotting goes away with heavy feeding. I’m seeing some begin on both my B/JxQ and Yatay xQ. Gonna bump up the feeding for those. Only those show it.

@Chris Chance I was hoping you'd post! Have you tried the langbeinite? Mine responded very well to using it on alternating months from Palmgain.

Does anyone know how I can purchase this hybrid? I have several standard mules but I want to grow this hybrid as well.

@Scott W how do folks get a hold of the Richard Lindberg hybrids?  That Jubutiagrus I got from you is cruising!  It's over 40" tall from the soil line; it was 19" when you shipped it back in October.  It seems Syagrus-dominant in overall form but is still strap-leaf so I'm excited to see how it develops over time.

I’ve wondered the same thing. I made a comment on a Facebook post of his asking if he sells to individuals or just distributors and didn’t see a reply. Does he have a contact he works through? Or a list of what’s available?

@Jesse PNW that's some amazing growth, glad to see it's doing well!

@NWpalms@206 most of what he produces is supplied to less than a handful of other growers and sellers, some of who are in the PNW.  I've known him for 20+ years so I have the luxury of getting together with him regularly.  We trade plants quite often which leads me to get more than my share of hybrids from him, which is how I had one to sell to Jesse.  I do have a few more just trying to get some size on them.

His J/B f3xQ is on my list, if you happen to have any you'd part with before he distributes more (hes got a batch going now as you likely know), id probably take one off your hands. They dont need to be 5gal, im happy with whatever size, strap to 5gal. unfortunately, once his palms hit those distributors that $ tag goes up quick, understandably. But if i can avoid some of that nursery markup that would also be very appreciated. But no worries, will go through the distributors if needed. Right now hoping these JxQ come through from San Diego... which i actually suspect are patricks that found theyre way to wholesaler... i have not heard a confirmed claim of anyone else doing the JxQ.

Being out in Cali, Patrick is the only one doing anything with Jubaea.  Rich did some limited crosses when someone sent him pollen, but he hasn't been able to get any since then.

I think I have one of these?

I know it was hybridized by a FL grower, and I got it by way of Penny's palms in SC.

That's probably then a Frank Lewis / Moultrie Palms plant.  Not sure where all he distributes to.

Looks like it, and if its J/b f3xQ then yes its likely from Rich, or frank @ moultrie is the only other source of them. Nice one!

You know I've never tried that one and I'm actually getting my first 50 pound bag of Palmgain once it shows up. I was using Palmplus the last few years.

Here’s my ((JubxBut)x syagrus) I dug it up last year as it was getting crowded by bigger palms and had no space to grow. It seems to be ok now. It’s certainly a tough palm and was never damaged in the 6 years it was planted from a 5 leaf seedling.

I do also have a ((butxjub)xsyagrus) somewhere too.

@Chris Chance Never heard of Palmplus. I've traditionally used MG palm shake and grow (back before I found PalmGain). Now I exclusively use Palmgain with langbeinite for extra hungry palms.

I'm in Wilmington.  It was bought it as a big strap leaf in 2016 grown in a pot and babied for its first years.  I'm pretty sure it went in the ground in spring 2017 when it was already going pinnate?  It has been wrapped with lights/frost cloth/thermo-cube any time it was forecast to go below 20.  (I missed one time when it hit 18 or 19, and it was fine)  It is  slower than my "standard" BXS mule, so it has stayed smaller and easier to protect.  It was wrapped for the ice and snow storms over the past couple weekends.

From “Peggy’s Palms” I forget the chaps name but I met him probably 4 years ago. He’s out of Akin Sc. Don’t think he is still currently selling palms. He source was from Rich I believe.

Thanks! Just curious I also have one and it’s already going pinnate at about 19-20” and very stiff straight strap leaves. I think mine leans toward the J/B side… yours you said seems maybe more queen dominant?  It does kind of look that way, much bigger strap leaves that aren’t so stiff. I don’t think mine will ever get to 40” as a strap leaf.

@NWpalms@206 yours is from Patrick right?  My Bujutiagrus (labelled BJxQueen) from Patrick is much smaller (~14"), seems less queen dominant, and is slower.  It's also attempting to go pinnate and probably will within the next frond or two.  Trunk is much fatter.  It looks more proportionally correct to what you would expect.

Sorry this is a crappy picture but hard to capture.  You can zoom in to see the tape.  For reference, here's a Syagrus romanzoffiana I got in Orlando, with a very strappy leaf that is over 5' tall (from grade).  The next frond after that finally went pinnate.
