Hello There,

Does anyone has as list of dioecious palms? Or at least the most common ones?

Thank you!

Bests,

Welcome to Palm Talk.  This is a great topic that I have thought about, but have not put a list together.  I also have thought about a list of those species that give us ONE CHANCE FOR SEEDS.

I don't have an exhaustive list but I'll get one started with ones I know.

Trachycarpus spp.

Phoenix spp.

Chamaedorea spp.

Rhapis spp.

Bismarckia nobilis

Chamaerops humilis

Hyphaene spp.

Medemia argun

Latania spp.

The Australian Livistonas are considered "functionally dioecious" as are some, if not all, Saribus spp.  I'm sure there are others but can't think of any more.  Hope this helps.  Interesting topic...

My Lytocaryum weddellianum N°1308 produced only staminate (male) flowers in all four inflorescences since. The peduncle was in all cases extremely short. Is this a rare exception or quite normal?

A question popped into my mind when I noticed what I believe is a male inflorescence emerging from a Ravenea glauca.  In that this species is dioecious, I wondered if hybridization with other species within the genus is very common when species are grown in close proximity.  I was trying to think if there were desirable characteristics that one might want to pull from two different Ravenea species in a hybrid.  Anyone seen examples of hybrid Raveneas or experimented with them?
