I am new to palms and received my first palm, chamaedorea metallica, a week ago from an online seller. upon arrival the plant looked healthy but had some weird looking variegation on its leaves with the metallic sheen portions surrounds by a black border (see below)
as the days have progressed the leaves have gotten a white rim around the metallic sections and very stiff and dry. the plant is still in its nursery pot and needs a repot but i’m trying to let it acclimate first.
any insights as to what may be going on would be much appreciated!

So I’ve got a handful of baggies on a heat pad here for germination thanks to Dooms Dave’s worldwide palm seed distribution program. Chamaedorea radicalis, Franken brahea, Archontophoenix maxima, Ptychosperma elegans. I also threw in a bag with a few P dacty ‘medjool’ as kindof a canary in the coal mine, if those don’t germinate I know I really managed to botch it somehow.
I still have D. laneolata and Cocothrinax dussiana to germinate here sometime. As it is, being that I live in Ohio I'm going to have a significant problem when these things germinate as it is. The wife is already imagining/dreading the house getting overrun in the winter with pots everywhere. I’ll do my best to restrict them to the sun room except on nights where it’s so cold I won’t be able to keep it above freezing.
What I’m doing is just getting a head start here before I can move to a more suitable climate, she’ll thank me one day I promise.

I was fixing my mixer in my DJ room today. I went to look for my spare faders and noticed this wierd object up in my closet... NO it wasn't those missing Underworld bootleg tapes under the briefcase...
WHAT the HECK is that!? I'd better get some more wine......
I made it back upstairs. What the heck is this thing....??? I hope it doesn't bite. Maybe I should get some gloves first. Ohhhh! I don't live in Australia where everything's poisonious. I'm going in!
What THE...???!!!???
OH!! I forgot ALL about those!
WELL, I had better get this spaghetti mess planted! I hope I'm not too late! What a bad palm daddy I am!
So, downstairs and to the backyard I went. Good thing I run a "plant triage" unit in the backyard! I got a few liner pots out of the shed and off I went to work. I received 10 seeds from RPS and have 9 pieces of "spaghetti". I SHOULD REPORT THIS ON THE WEBSITE I COULD WIN A GIFT CARD!!! I can see it now... "Uhhhhh, just forget about them and you will be OK. 90%!"
My Garden helper was ready when I told him I had baby plants. They need food!
It was quite a mess untangling the roots from each other and getting them out of the paper towel. I did a lot of damage but kept the main root intact on all of them...
So in the end I have 9 sad new Dypsis ambositraes that I have no room for like all the other palm people! Thanks for tagging along on the adventure!
