Landscape Art.. A different view through the lens..

As mentioned awhile back, been working on a project that i thought i'd share ..and seek yay / nay feedback on.

When it comes to Photography, there are many different subjects one can zero in on in regards to subject matter..  The great thing about and angle that involves landscape Photography is it is hard to manipulate things like what light, or what other conditions you may be shooting in.  While the " natural state " of a photograph ..cleaned up, if necessary of course, is great,  there is more to see ..beyond what you might see in a picture, if you use your imagination, and look beyond what is captured in the lens..

One can take their pictures in a more " artistic " direction and reveal something different to share.  While applying techniques like Black and white, Sepia Tone, etc can add their own " mood " level, today's technology allows for a number of other possibilities. Some are basic, some a bit more complicated.. but, if  utilized correctly, and combined w/ the basic elements of producing good pictures, can turn a great shot into something even more interesting. As w/ anything, some artistically altered shots may be better than others.

*** As mentioned previously, all shared work is sole property of myself. Any duplicates / altered duplicates ..to try and pass on as someone else's work  found ...that were not shared by me, ..or granted permission to be shared - by me-  will be subject to consequence.. ***   ...Just don't do it.  Ask first :)

..Some older/ some newer work..  As you look at each picture / group of pictures, think of how they might look, hung somewhere.. Serious, fellow shutterbugs especially...  Obviously,  ..some will be winners, while some will not.. At least in that respect.  All are good enough to share, i hope, lol..  There are others i have done in years past, but they are on other hard drives. Can't add until i have the $$ to pull them off those.

Where it all started: ..Playing around w/ shots i'd taken of my 4- legged fur brat when he was a year old..  After playing around a bit, i found a new appreciation for the more abstract  view of my photos..

Tried applying the same idea to some of the Lightning shots i captured last summer.. Results weren't great - at all- .. May try to re-work some sunset shots in time as well..  For now,  Enjoy..  Some shots shared here, are repeats from that " mention of a project awhile back "

Starting w/ Palms, of course..

As someone who loves abstract art AND tropical landscapes, I love these. Can see them grouped in an exhibit by color scheme... or (better yet) on my wall.

These ones are my personal favorites,, but I enjoy studying many of the others. Some of them evoke a mood, like the trees with red at the core (gives me the feeling the trees have a soul). But again, these are the ones I'd probably pick for my own wall decor...

Nice to see the use of Screwbean Mesquite, a desert SW native that doesn't get much love.  I really like the palm photos, well everything else too but I've actually been looking for palm art that I like.  Sounds funny, well maybe on this forum, but I've wanted some palm related photos/art for various silly things, like for example, on my phone case, but everything available on Amazon or wherever just looks hokey and doesn't suit at all what I had in mind.  I would actually buy a product that features shots like these. Another thing I wish I had was a palm tree calendar, every month features a different species along with a little write up about what makes it special, but the only palm tree calendars that exists are 12 months of coconuts on tropical islands.  I guess the calendar wouldn't need to be artistic in this way, I'm just thinking out loud now, always wondered why IPS doesn't offer more stuff like that.

Xerarch,   my wife makes her own calendars each year using a site called Shutterfly.  The images are always of our dog,  or images from our various vacations !  :winkie:

:greenthumb: Thank you Stacy..  Is exactly the kind of feedback i'm looking for.. Agree, some will definitely appeal to the eye ( or a wall in a room ) more than others.. and that each picture offers up something different for someone..  You mention being able to see the soul of the trees in some.. Have a few other images i'll add later, one i think may really speak to your observation..

Regardless,  over the next few months, going to be looking further into bringing the better shots out from behind a computer screen.   A test at first, to see if ..or how much.. interest there may be..

The normal shot of the Screwbean pods was already ok.. Really liked it after playing with it..  Agree, it is one of those desert trees that is often overlooked ..or given a cold shoulder..  Shouldn't be, but, i get not everyone is going to want a somewhat shrubby looking, spiny tree in their yard..

I thought the IPS did calendars.. The idea of including a snippit about the palm / what makes it unique, etc, would be a good selling ..and education point as well..  Could do both a standard calendar using standard shots.. and one that is a bit more artsy, for those who might be interested..

I’ve sold designs on both Redbubble and Teepublic. The commission isn’t high but it’s at least enough to fund my own purchases. I’m my own best customer (lol).

Of your designs the middle one I marked (with palm leaves overlapping) is the one I’d be most likely to buy a shirt of (or mug, wall print, notebook, etc.). Maybe try that one first as a test. If you do, make sure to use lots of keywords (so searchers can find it).

  Definitely not a multi million endeavor..  Extra income is always welcome though ( esp. for additional plant purchases ) Will check out the placed you'd mentioned..  A very well known storm photographer ( Mike Olbinski ) here has a online site ( for purchasing his prints ) that i liked the lay out of ..could choose the size of the print, what finish ( matte or glossy ), and any frame option(s) before purchasing as a " total " product.

Fyi, If you, or anyone you know enjoys images of storms / lightning.. would recommend checking out pictures by Mike. Not speaking on behalf of him, but have been an avid admire-er of his work, esp. his Monsoon season stuff.
