James W 13 Report post Posted January 8 So far, everything in my 8b (Beaverton, OR) yard pulled through. I don't think it got below 17F. I didn't protect anything except my Cyathea Cooperiis (used heat cable on the core region). Those tree ferns lost most leaves but are very much alive. Also surviving are the Dicksonia Antacticas, Mule Palm, various agaves, aloes, mangave etc. I did dig up all bulbs/corms from my Colocasia, Queen Emma Lily, Heliconia, ensette maurellii and put them in straw indoors.. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

They need to revise it because they built a railroad spur over Scatter Creek, and once the culvert floods, it backs up on this side of the tracks. The residents on my street here went to Thurston county in 1996 and the county said, "no, it shouldn't flood there, because there's a culvert!" Thanks. For that. I-5 was closed between mm 68-88 (my exit) for a couple hours yesterday but it was clear when I got home from work. I need to drive down and see how bad the Chehalis is flooded. Thats pretty much what happened to all of BC back in November during that atmospheric river, except we got hit a lot worse. If you haven't seen pictures already, check out the carnage that happened to the Coquihalla highway. That is the main way to get into the interior of the province and parts of the road were just gone. Screwed up my plans over the holidays to see my in-laws in the Okanagan and go skiing! There was an interesting story yesterday about a hydro pole from the interior washing up on the shores of Vancouver earlier this week. Thats how strong the water was! southpacific73 61 Report post Posted January 13 (edited) Update on some palms . They are showing damage now especially to older leaves. Ultimate low was 11F in my area Burnaby,BC. Most of these were just covered with frost cloth and a pot.Yesterday we hit 11C/52F with the atmospheric river hitting us. Can’t wait for spring to see what the outcome is with these palms. Trachycarpus Nova Trachycarpus Nainital Chamaerops Humilis showing some damage but it will come back!Chamaedorea Radicalis Needle Palm just protected with mulch.Washingtonia Robusta not looking good but spear is intact! Swolte 984 Report post Posted January 14 Yeah, my Radicalis went through 18F unprotected (briefly) and seem like they will be OK (as opposed to some of my unprotected cycads and browning Robusta). Paradise Found 889 Report post Posted January 14 (edited) I cut my red banana back and it is still alive with green growth. It only had a blanket over it and it was lying on its side off the ground. May as well wrap them every year and see what happens. This is the second year for ch. radicalis to over winter without protection and without any damage. 19F was the low with 4 days below 32F.
