My day trip to get palms at Gary Hollar's place

I got some Trachys and Birmingham's at Gary's Nursery in New Bern , NC  that day . I checked out his biggest Birmingham when he  gave me a nice tour of the place .

If the video at the bottom of this post  doesn't work I'll post pictures of that day too .

He's got some fat Palmettos  . I'm not sure everything survived the 2018 cold event that he said was a 100 year cold where he , like me ,  had 8 days below 32F . South of there in Wilmington it was much milder but New Bern was about as cold as my location in Winston-Salem when normally New Bern is milder than me . I'll need to get an update and visit there again soon .

He used to have a bxj or probably a b(bxj) from DR. Wilcox . Did it make it through the 2018 cold spell?

Not sure if it was the one you’re talking about. When I was there recently Gary said he lost a butia he didn’t protect during a cold snap. He said the trunk froze and cracked wide open. I want to say it was near his house and he said he replaced it with one even closer to the foundation.

@Will Simpson I didn’t take any pics when I was there…..the palmettos he has have the fattest trunks I’ve ever seen. And that palmetto he started from seed 26 years ago under those pines that’s probably what 25 feet tall!

I'll get down there sometime soon and ask him .

You can actually call his business and he seems to enjoy talking about his palms . If you do call him ask him how that cold snap in 2018 affected his palms . The Gary's Nursery phone number is 252-637-6858 .

Gary said they reliably produce fat ass trunks. He had a bunch of gnarly looking uresanas, looked like 7 gallon plants in 5 gallon pots when I was there in November. And a bunch of big 5 gallon brazorias
