Dallas filibusta bites the dust

Cut down my 30 foot trunk, with 3 foot diameter trunk filibusta in Dallas today. From ground level you couldn’t see any new growth. After lady winters deep freeze of 3F. We started cutting about 30 feet up and when that portion came down we found actively growing leaves.  Nearby filibuster commenced visible growth and wasn’t cut down. I’ve also included an image of the palm in 1997.

That's a bummer Tony.  I doubt that it would have survived another winter anyway.  Hopefully your other one will keep going...

Thats a real shame to lose something that large, I would be very sad. Glad to see you have lots of other healthy looking palms left though!

Would it have come back if there was a warm winter?????

We will never know, such a massive palm!

I guess cutting it down ends the stress of worrying.

It was alive...  I bet it would have recovered...

It's hard to say. Lots of big L. chinensis started pushing new leaves in Houston and then died. This one probably had a better chance given how massive it is and the species hardiness, but there's still a good chance it was a goner.

Good to see it was still alive at least when you cut it down. If it had even a tarp thrown over it maybe it could have recovered

Wow that was a beautiful tree. So sad to lose ones like that. Now Time for a new one to grow into its shoes!

What is the silver one behind to the right? Silver  Fan fronds but a butia like trunk, that’s very nice.
