Who’s growing hydroponics?

Was always interested in growing hydroponically, wasn’t sure I would ever get the chance to do it. It just so happens the owner of the company I work for had this setup in his garage and did one vegetable grow and shut it down ( as a lot of labors of love go lol ). His wife told him to use it or sell it, so we set it up in one of the mostly empty storage rooms at our shop. Kinda funny I work at a steel fabrication shop and get paid to play around with a hydro setup whenever I want, not that I need any more responsibilities or plant projects lol. Anyway the trough system is a lettuce growing machine. Just setup all the buckets with baskets, got all of them plumbed, just need to hook up the air pumps. May do half and half trickle from the air pump to basket ring and the other half submerged air stone. All tomatoes here264D9E87-4E55-48D5-AFE4-5494EC28BB06.thumb.jpeg.b4e2eb6ceebda5c4943d629b7fe121d4.jpeg

Next is getting a big plastic tote setup for all these pepper plants. Trying to combat the algae with grapefruit seed oil extract at the moment. 4DAB7C53-1DC5-45CD-B5B2-E7CDA73BD7B0.thumb.jpeg.4561a1aa6cc3eee2ea3c8e58536d581f.jpegI’ll try and keep this updated if anyone is interested

No kidding I’ve been thinking this everyday I mess with the hydro, “what would happen if I grew a palm tree hydroponically???” Lol. For experiments sake I might try one, the root growth on these is almost unbelievable, I’ll take a pick when I get to work tomorrow. Oh yeah this is all in a storage room at my work

Very cool. Hydro/aqua-ponics are in my realistic to try in the future list.

Before having any experience with it, I assumed it was complicated and time consuming….in reality it’s so easy it’s honestly boring lol

Various lettuces and kale going strong. We’ve harvested 3 times now. Going to keep it going until the plants bolt or s*** the bed. 76AFD718-0A1A-4039-A798-C0ABF32C874D.thumb.jpeg.d1ec95c15e26772f8ddbe8002fb87b7d.jpeg

Tomatoes have really taken off now, all except the brandywine, those might not be the best variety for hydroponic. Brandywine below, none of these 3 have rooted out of the rock wool block yet, where all the others have 3-4 feet of roots in the buckets.43D817E9-D7E8-42CC-AAB2-8511FC38001D.thumb.jpeg.cff217e070f97d88c108fc006cd554ac.jpegMarbonne below, super thick and all flowering and setting fruit. 6255B735-65E1-4E6A-9829-86B190130431.thumb.jpeg.86ee925119ee36e07152291e9afea9fb.jpegBlack cherry doing well, normal spindly habit, all flowering and setting fruit as wellF87DE963-C7BD-49F0-8B1B-3EE634CCFF64.thumb.jpeg.20d5ae25299671f214d7850143fec2ec.jpegHad to cover all the blocks with black plastic the algae got real bad in no time.

My biggest hurdle is space,; I'd have to covert a spare room or drastically clean out my garage.

I have renewed my pepper cultivar program, so hydro would be great to prevent cross pollination.
