Sabinaria magnifica habitat buried under garbage

Sabinaria magnifica was discovered in the remote, inaccessible rainforests of the Darien Gap along the Colombian-Panama border.  The forest had been a no man’s land for many decades due to the civil war with the FARC guerrillas.  Now the forest is controlled by gangs of human traffickers who lead hundreds of thousands of Caribbean and other migrants through the forest on their way north to Panama and eventually the US.  They are burying the forest under tremendous amounts of garbage.  Bulldozers are at work clearing illegal trails to facilitate more migrants.  As I believe Joni Mitchell sang, ‘They paved paradise and put up a garbage dump.’

Homo sapiens is a malignant cancer on the face of Mother Earth.  Try imagine the natural history conditions of the western hemisphere just 500 years ago.

I like home sapiens.  What kind of planet would this be without Doomsdave screaming his obscenities? This story IS of interest/concern to me. I think we can be good stewards of the planet and actually be of benefit to the other species. It doesn't have to be a zero-sum game of humans vs the planet. There are other policies to be considered here, besides our existence.

I just opened and read the latest IPS emailed Newsletter which contains good news and hope for preservation of the Darién Gap, home to Sabinaria magnifica. Check your email!
