I just harvested some freshly picked seed off my single trunk Dypsis baronii 'Red fuzzy petiole' form. The red fuzz on the petioles extends the entire length of the frond and is absolutely a stunning and easy to grow plant. I have germinated tons of seed over the years and almost all of them have stayed solitary.

check out the pic's of the mother plant

Got some of these via a trade and had very good germination in coco noir on a heat mat set at 85. I started these late October.

Two fuzzy reds with a 'black stem' in the middle, for comparison. Is this an undescribed species or really just another variety of baronii? What's going on here? It would be good to move the topic but I wasn't sure how to do that.

Coir usually has more stringy stuff in it. Coco peat is ground up, ..looks a lot like Peat Moss in texture and has much less of the stringy stuff in it.

LOL looks like I typo’d that or it autocorrected. It should say coco coir. Here is what I used. There was some stringiness but it is pretty well ground up.
