Help is my bizmark Palm sick or dying ?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, first off let me just express I know nothing about landscaping, flowers, grass or anything Alike. That being said when we were remodeling our house and doing the landscaping we decided on this palm tree to be our centerpiece. We’ve had it for about seven months and it’s definitely grown and it’s gorgeous. But if you look at the pictures on this post it looks like some spheres in the middle that are growing straight up, are growing this brown hair like substance, and there is a slight droop in the fronds. The brown substance is definitely not getting better, it’s getting worse. All the flowers around it are healthy. It’s getting pretty much direct sunlight and water every other day. Any idea if it’s getting sick? Or dying ? What should I do?

@Soflopaul The palm looks healthy.  The black/brownish hair is called tomentum and it is normal on Bismarckia.

You'd probably still get more right than I would.  You get a mulligan for Friday evening. ;)

Perfectly healthy bismarckia nobilis with lots of Tomentum.   a little overpruned, but nice looking.

Totally agree with @DCA_Palm_Fan some have the brown tormentum and some do not but don’t trim the fronds unless they are dead with time they will drop their fronds so you don’t need to trim them

yes I have planted out 6 bismarckia in two homes, the tomentum varies and 1/6 had no tomentum at all.
