Palm leave tips getting brown and dried??

Recommended Posts

JANAIY

Hi, A few of my exotic palms started to get brown leaf tips what seem to dry out. They are in the shade all day, get misted during hot season 2x a day. I am not sure why this is happening. Can it be water related? Too much water? They shouldn’t have nutrient deficiency since I use time released Florikan twice a year. Particularly it is happening to my Pelagodoxa Henryana, Burretiokentia Dumasii, Kerriodoxa, Licuala Mapu and the Johannesteijsmannia . I attach pics. Any idea so I can change the issue hopefully?

I don't know, is it possible that you have had more wind with a low humidity out there?

Or a hot wind? And yes it could be too much water.

I can't be too exact with this theory and don't want to overstate it, but the water balance (heavily affected by sun and heat and dry wind) is what causes brown tips, imo. My theory is that there are different types of brown tips. Any yellowing seems to indicate a surplus of water (stress from lack of root air-exchange). Tips that are darker brown (often smaller areas) seem a feature of water lack.

It can be a tough balance, varying highly between species (some water-hogs, some dry-delicates).

That's a nice Henryana. From what I can see looks like it's in nearly mint condition.
