Roswell New Mexico Sabal palms

Recommended Posts

Jtee

I drove down a random street in a neighborhood today in Roswell and noticed these 3 Sabal palms. The only palms I have ever seen in Roswell. I had just posted a pic yesterday of a Sabal palm in Alamogordo NM and I said it was the only Sabal palm I’ve ever seen in New Mexico and then today I spot a few more.
zone 7a-7b

im sure they would look decent with some care and trimming.

There was a larger washy at taco bell on north main that survived 2011.  Not sure if it is still there. Also a large S. mexicana by the country club survived same event(-11f).

You know what, I thought I remembered as a kid a palm tree in front of Taco Bell. Of course I didn’t know anything about palms back then but as an adult I thought maybe it was just one of those large yuccas.

As of 2019 the mentioned Washingtonia seems to still be kicking,

This garden center oddly also has a large sabal,

Couldn't find the Sabal via streetview, but found this young washy near one of the country clubs
