Keith and Caroline Jaeger Garden Visit Northern California Palm Society

The Northern California Palm Society will be meeting on August 29th at the garden of Keith and Caroline Jaeger in San Rafael. They have been working on their garden for the past dozen or so years with plantings being added up to the present. The garden is essentially frost-free, so there is an extensive collection from New Caledonia - Burretiokentia, Cyphophoenix, Kentiopsis, and Chambeyronia. Others include less cold tolerant species such as Syagrus, Chamaedorea, Ravenea, Ceroxylon (unfortunately not trunking yet) and Dypsis. The palms are complemented by various subtropical and cloud forest plants as well as orchids.

For those that have not been to a meeting before - or have forgotten what the world was like prior to Covid - there will be a potluck lunch and a palm auction. So as you are able, please bring food and drink to share, as well as palms that can be donated to the auction. All money raised by the auction will go to the club treasury for activities like helping to maintain the Oakland Palmetum.

A few words of warning. It is frost-free because it is on a slope, so the tour will involve going up and down steps. And an RSVP is needed as there is limited parking and we want to make sure we have accommodations for everyone. With your RSVP, directions will be provided to assigned parking spots. We will be emailing Constant Contact inquiries for you to access to attend the event.

The meeting will run from 12:00 to 3:00. The rough agenda is:

12 to 1 - potluck, socializing and exploring the garden
1 to 2 - a guided garden tour
2 t0 3 - palm auction and any palm society business

We think this will be a great way to get meetings going again and will be excited to see everyone.

Thanks - Glenn Harris

Hello Palm Friends,

The Northern California Palm Society is once again planning an upcoming meeting.  We apologize for last years cancellation but the palm garden owner found it to be a necessity.  It's a crazy time we are living though for sure.

Keith and Caroline Jaeger are once again planning on hosting our group this year.  They are looking at possible dates this summer or fall.

If you have a palm garden you would like to share with our group and are interested in hosting a meeting, please let us know.

We look forward to seeing everyone.
