Can someone tell me why the fonds are dying half way up, the pictures are of 3 different trachycarpus plants I have but I have 5 others that are doing perfect.

It looks like they went through a period of unfavorable conditions in terms of temperature/moisture/light and some rotting has developed in the center. But that has grown out since then and they seem to do alright now, as the spear looks good.

It’s common for palms to put out stunted and deformed fronds in either cold or some other type of problem. They usually grow out of it. Keep an eye on the center spear. If it’s healthy then don’t worry about it.

Cold damage also known as a frost ring.   Damage right at the base where the fronds were just emerging, if two fronds were making an appearance then both will show the damage.   All the new fronds after will show no damage.

.... Did you use heat cables around the spear/crown over the winter?

if so......could be heat damage from the cables.  I have seen that happen

with my own palms.

Please elaborate on the conditions these were exposed to during the winter/spring months?  Pots Inside/outside, lowest temps exposed to.

There in pots outside the lowest temperature was around -4c for 1 or 2 days, I’m on the east side of Vancouver Island, for the last 3 months the temp has been around low 6-9c high ave around 16-20c

Looks like frost ring to me as well..  this happens around here if you plant a Trachycarpus in winter. It should be fine.

That should do it.  That level of cold for small palms in the pots it's gonna happen.  I've had this a couple times when I put in small Trachys after their first winter.
