We’ve had a bit of rain.

Tyrone

Recommended Posts

This year has been a wet one so far with about 2.5 times the rainfall we had this time last year. On Monday morning my area saw about 55mm of rain fall in 3.5hrs. This made the stream into my property start to flow and all my ponds and dams fill right up and flow into the river nearby. So far at the beginning of May we’ve had our average rainfall to the end of May. I took a few pics.

Beautiful pics Tyrone! Do you have marron in the pond?

Thanks. I dont have marron but I reckon we have koonacs. Down in the King River there are definitely marron. The King River is about 300m from my property. If I had flow all year round I reckon I'd have marron, but they're pretty picky about where they want to live.

It’s the earliest I’ve ever seen the water flow in and fill the place up. Normally it fills up in the mid part of July. Last year it didn’t happen until August 4th about 3 weeks after a mega frost event. To have it happen on May 3 is very early. Now I have the place loaded with water, the water will more easily create a temperature buffer on a cold night.

You have a really beautiful corner of the world there, thanks for the photos.

We are coming out of the dry season, hoping for rain tonight and tomorrow.

Well after a wet start to May and a couple of wet days in the middle we had a mega wet couple of days on the 29th and 30th. In just over 36hrs we got 105mm of rain. An average May gets us about 114mm of rain. This year we doubled it with 230mm of rain. The wettest month I’ve ever experienced in my time here in just over 7 years. Here are some pics. Apologies for the light level in some pics. It was starting to get dark.

This afternoon the water had really receded. Thanks goodness. The shovel is the highest point it got too. I put it there in the lawn so at night I could shine a torch on it to see if the water was still rising and getting too close to the house.

Wintery blast  on the way for parts of southern WA on Sunday and Monday, with rain and thunderstorms  across northern parts of the state. A cold front approaching south west WA this afternoon, will move across southwestern parts of the state on Sunday, bringing cold, gusty and showery conditions, with possible thunderstorms and small hail. These conditions will continue into Monday. Temperatures will be cold, with maximums 4-8C below average across western WA. Some locations may struggle to reach double figures on Monday, with icy southerly winds and wind chills, making it feel even colder. Perth will be just 14C on Monday. Further north rain and thunderstorms will develop and spread across central and eastern parts of the Pilbara and northern Interior, with heavy falls possible. A low-pressure system may develop Monday into Tuesday near southern WA bringing more impacts, but it's a dynamic and changeable situation and impacts are highly dependant on if and where the low pressure system develops. So its important to stay up to date with the latest forecasts and any warnings issued. Know your weather. Know your risk. Well this was the forecast on the afternoon of June 20 this year. Windy.com was predicting 22mm of rain in 24hrs and about 54mm of rain in 10 days. I was concerned that my totally saturated property wouldn’t handle 22mm in one day either.

Then around 1.45pm I noticed this happening, and I began to worry. The ants were moving from somewhere underneath my concrete verandah area and relocated to the other side of my house, climbed up some of my potted palms under my verandah area and disappeared into a crack at eye height in a window frame into the brick work. They weren’t the only ones doing it. Ants appeared in my letterbox too. I confirmed with a friend that dropped something in our letterbox that they weren’t in there an hour earlier. By 5pm they had moved and not an ant could be seen. At the time I thought it odd and took the pic. I was wondering whether they knew something was up, and much bigger than predicted. By 5.30pm the heavy rain started falling.

I took some videos but they were too big to post. I was worried about 22mm in a day but by 8.30pm the place was starting to go under. Some parts of Albany got 130mm of rain in around 5hrs. I think we may have got close. My nearest weatherzone station had rain rates as high as 90mm per hour at one point. Here are some pics in the morning after the water had fallen around 12cm. A picture from our lounge room window.

The palms loved it though. Here’s one of my R bauerii opening a new spear and another R bauerii that couldn’t wait for its old leaf to shrivel up and threw a green leaf off with a flower underneath. They don’t care about 130mm of rain 100kmh wind and 8C temps.
