Hello Palmtalk friends,

I recently found the critters below on the base of one of our yucca rigidas in our yard.  So, this past weekend I had a potted E. Horridus on the complete other side of the yard and just today I found a couple on it as well.  What are these things, and how the heck do they spread???

Thank you!

They might be a hemispherical scale(Saissetia coffeae), there is probably nothing you can do for the adults, but the other stages can be controlled with a pesticide. Try a dinotefuran insecticide.

Well, after scouring the web for a bit, I see that I’ve got an issue with some sort of scale bug.  The yucca rigida, I initially had thought was suffering from overwatering, was actually being eaten alive by the scale.  The yucca’s right next to a honeysuckle that’s totally infested by the crawlers.

I’ve sprayed down the honeysuckle and yucca with Ortho 3 in 1 and put a few drops on the Horridus.  Hopefully, that helps...
