Possibly Werauhia sanguinolenta ‘rubra’ (formerly in Vriesea group)?

Mine hasn’t bloomed yet, so can’t say for sure.

Man I wish it was W. sanguinolenta 'rubra' I've been wanting one for years. The dark almost black leaves are awesome, but the flowers are spikes with small little flowers.  Thanks for you input.

Here something I tried that I think worked... I took my photo and did a google image search and what came up and I think is the same as mine by the foliage and flower is...some type of Guzamia. But not totally sure.

I'll take another pic to update the flower when it totally opens.

I found the real deal its called Bromeliad Guzmania 'Tala' and it might be fairly new to the trade. It like part shade and blooms a long time. This is the first Guzmania I have grown and its a winner. :D

Ah yes - that does look like a match. And makes a lot more sense based on the plant's size. The waxy texture on the leaves and green/purple coloring made me wonder if it might a sanguinolenta, but it's all about the inflorescence in this case... and the 'Tala' fits the bill. Looks like this guy has a few if you need more (lol)...
