Mexican weeping bamboo muerte?

Recommended Posts

One of my groups of Mexican weeping bamboo appears to be dying. Pictures of canes and foliage below.

Which isn’t a bad thing because I’m going to plant some Chamadorea plumosa in the space.

Will it return? I’d say no because the roots appear rotten too.

Thoughts, experiences, rants even?

The heck happen to it?, lol

Only reason it might completely die off like that is if it has flowered/ set seed, though i can't really find much info. regarding if Otatea die after flowering -like other bamboo types.. certainly not cold enough where you are to kill it. ( hardy to 22F, perhaps upper teens if such cold is of short duration ) Lack of water might slowly starve it, but imagine you'd notice the decline way before this.

Maybe clear out most of the old culms and see if the roots are indeed gone as well/ if there are any signs of new growth anywhere. Would imagine these would come back from the roots if chopped / burnt down in a fire in habitat.  Odd.

I gotta admit that getting rid of my 20 year old clump was a wise decision. Although the texture and look are/were nice the damn leaflets made a mess inside my bromeliads. My advice? Weep no more.

Agree but that stuff still seems cool. That stated, so is melaleuca in Florida!

What you look for is what is looking
