New fronds growing with yellow tips

Hello! New indoor potted palm owner here! Was gifted a potted palm by my in-laws about 2 years ago (would love some help identifying the type) and the new fronds are coming in with yellow tips! It hasn’t been repotted in 3 years or so. But it is in a large pot that came with holes and a saucer. I have just added pot feet under it so it’s not sitting in water last week so am hoping this will help. I water about once a week when the soil feels dry—I feed palm food in the spring and summer. The windows are south west facing and get as good of light as you can get in London! All and any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi! Welcome to the forum.

It looks a Phoenix, so, please don't be so anxious about watering. Let it dry a bit. Water only when the top 2 to 3 inches feel dry, the pot seems large enough to hold considerable moisture. Mind those may not be good indoor palms. Sitting in water you say? Did well adding pot feet under the pot. It will help, but you need to wait and be patient...you've been watering a little too much. The tips may also indicate some nutrients deficiency, possibly related to the potting soil breaking down (3 years old at least...right?), losing properties and not allowing nutrients to the palm, or even salt built up. Maybe it's about time to change it (fast draining). What fertilizer do you use? NPK ratio? Is the palm near a heat source? The stretched leaves indicates that the spot is too shady, it needs much more light.

When you say south facing windows I think of massive light coming in that Palm isn’t getting enough light the palm is dying off a frond as fast as it grows a new one. Maybe get it some artificial light as well. Make sure it never sits in water during the dead of winter I don’t fertilize. Why? Because I don’t flood the palm with water so there is no flushing. I want the medium to stay moist but never wet. The indoor conditions are not hot enough minus air movement to suck up the water before the roots rot.
