I have noticed over the last few weeks that the Jersulalem Thorn has been showing it’s yellow shock:61B4EC98-48A3-443E-A2D7-3259FE97920F.thumb.jpeg.7a60f6f1d760c82b55249ead14d64171.jpegF6C3B3D0-F557-4FA9-95C2-75E70C1BD6F7.thumb.jpeg.877716defb11c3a4940056c59e7aeee4.jpeg

Some kind of Sapote:AECDF9E5-72FC-4780-8454-3FF50545B7D2.thumb.jpeg.16fe99792cf2d21039a0aec8cbbe0f8e.jpeg

Think this is West Indian Mahogany, ( Swietenia mahagoni  ) rather than a Sapote.  Distinct  Clamshell like " lip " can be seen on the lowest unripe seedpod in the picture, left of center.  Might be able to find the discarded opened pods that resemble a wooden Waterlily or Star from last year around the base of the tree, unless the spot is maintained regularly.

Thank you Silas! I had no idea. Are the fruits good to eat? What do they taste like?

Might be tasty for things that like the taste of wood.. Pretty sure the shell/seed contains toxic compounds as well ( Same family as Chinaberry ). Tree is the original source of Mahogany ( Wood ). Is considered a threatened species due to being extensively logged in S. Florida before the 1900's. Odd because some sources also say it can be an aggressive pioneer species outside where it originally grew down there. Very easy and fast growing from fresh seed. Great shade tree.
