Sorry... Gene, I did not realise that you wanted me to post the pics. I do not check every thread unfortunately.

Here it is, the special palm. I wished it was mine. Maybe one day... The owner has put down 1000 seeds of Licuala Grandis, and only had 2 variegated ones, and lost one. So, this is his pride and joy...

Regards, Ari :)

Ari,

That variegated L. grandis is pretty unique! Love it!

Here's my first L. cordata to produce an inflorescence. Including the shoe was unintentional, but for the shoe connoisseurs out there, it's an Adidas Boston Classic size 13.

Very stunning that L. cordata. Is it as slow as they said, Bo? I guess mine will take a few years to get that big.

Ari,

Yes, they're slow, but worse than that, they're unpredictable. I planted a bunch of them in the same general area (9 of them I believe) in April 2002. From 4 inch and 1 G pots. The plants were between 3 and 6 inches tall. The one in the photo has done the best, and has probably quadrupled in size over these five and a half years. I lost a few and the half dozen that are still alive are quite different in size. One or two have hardly grown at all! And as far as I know, I treated them all pretty much the same, so who knows...! ???

Gene,

What do you mean by consistent? If you mean every leaves, I think so. I haven't seen it lately, apparently the guy has moved to rural block. I am sure he is taking the palm with him, even if he has to move it with a backhoe. Might worth giving him a call and visit the palm  :D

Regards, Ari :)

This is my new Licuala spinosa that I bought at the USF sale on Saturday. It was in this container, which is either a 7 gal or a 10 gal.

Its gonna be a favorite, I can tell. If its growing in the ground in Jacksonville, maybe..........

Just planted these Licuala grandis after clearing our some overgrowth and cutting down two gunpowder trees (logs lying there as border). My favorite Ti-leaf plants (cordyline) are used here as accent plantings.

Hi Gene, My new Licuala fordiana, one of the ten palms that were a gift, from the botanist at H. P. Leu Gardens, (Eric in Orlando), when he came (so graciously) to get the palms that I donated, haven't found much on this species, but here's a few photos of mine, Ed

I can see a big difference in the fordiana(thicker leaflets and spinosa-like) and the "true" fordiana(thin leaflets almost like distans)--it's supposed to grow to about 3-4 feet tall and cluster, right? I have two small fordianas and have planted them, according to these dimensions... I also have Henderson's book.
