Palmetto tree Charlotte

I was going to get an 8 foot palmetto tree to try out in south Charlotte area.  What are the odds of makes it?  Is 8 foot mature enough to stand a chance?  Where should I put It?  Was thinking in back yard by corner of house.  Would get decent sun.  Should I get it right after last frost to allow maximum warm weather to settle in?  I do plan to put lights and blankets around it in winter when it’s cold at night.  I do see some palmettos around Charlotte that look decent and have been there for years (mostly at business).

Juts put it in full sun near a wall, it'll be fine unprotected except for extreme freezes.

Nothing to say here.

There are a few Palmettos in Cramerton on New Hope Rd. northwest of you.   Some died shortly after planting, but some were still there a year ago.  There are a few in town at businesses occasionally.
