What kind of tree was this?

Recommended Posts

I got the wood from a Craig’s List posting in Glendora. It’s heavy, close grained and a bit  dense.

Here’s pictures of the leaves.

Any thoughts as to what kind of tree the wood is from?

Resembles Brazilian Pepper, but not 100%.. Definitely something in the Anacardiaceae: Sumac / Cashew family.. Imagine the leaves stink when crushed.  Would not burn it ( Smoke from all plants in that family can cause injury to the Respiratory system, similar to Poison Oak/ Ivy, Sumac ) even after delayed curing ( of the wood )

I’m almost certain it’s not Brazilian Pepper as the bark on the logs is way too smooth.
