redant 1,043 Report post Posted December 30, 2020 I walk past this palm 1,000 times a day, drive by it, it's mine, right in the front of my house. Yet until this morning I didn't notice it turned into a freak. Because the split so close and the angle of the palm you might not notice this until you get to a certain angle. Not really sure which Archontophoenix this is, other then Archontophoenix var freak 11
Patrick 210 Report post Posted December 30, 2020 2 for 1 special! Any idea what might have caused it to split- maybe storm damage?
PalmatierMeg 5,449 Report post Posted December 30, 2020 Storm damage is a good bet. It's old enough to have gone through Irma.
Palmensammler 98 Report post Posted December 30, 2020 That's really an impressive picture. It shows the strength of nature and the will of this palm to survive. Hope to see pictures again i a few years. Eckhard

redant 1,043 Report post Posted December 30, 2020 Palms about 17 years in the ground so it's seen many storms, past that I have no idea what caused this, it's always looked very healthy, and still does.

JohnAndSancho 138 Report post Posted January 1 We had a mimosa tree in my backyard when I was a kid. Had a really similar split after it got hit by lightning. This is a whole lot cooler, IMO.
