Look closely

Are they trimmed or did they lose the leaves?  While I'm not growing any now, mine would lose a lot of lower leaves during our cool cold winters while the fruit would hold over winter to ripen in the spring.

^ Was thinking the same thing..  Who would waste time trimming a Papaya? esp. something that tall?  A case of  " Too much time on my hands",  perhaps? lol.

You are assuming a rational modus operandi. This is PB, where everything is trimmed except that which is missed. To that point, observe the two “trimmed” papayas in the middle and far left of the shot. Then observe the “missed non-trimmed escapees” amongst and to the right of the Sabals on the lower right of the shot...

My thought was they trimmed the Sabals and the papayas at the same time "because they were there."
