Syzygium antisepticum in holiday colors

I have a Syzygium antisepticum that is putting on quite a show, the fruits are just as blinding bright white in person. Surprisingly hardy for a plant native to wet lowlands in Indomalaya too, takes upper 20s without problems.

A nice species. I just ordered seeds, hope they will germinate well. How did your little beauty grow during the last years?

It froze to the ground from -11C in February 2021 and again from -9C in December 2022. The ground here never freezes though. Always comes back and is currently growing even in the "winter"...the last few weeks nights have been around 2-10C and days 12-21C

Would this make a reliable canopy tree in winters with some light frosts? It's stunning

Sure but it's not a super fast grower like some of its relatives like S. jambos. Probably need decades for a useable canopy in your climate

I see. I'll get one anyway and place it somewhere else then.

This are great news, thank you very much! The seeds just arrived today, will plant them in the heated greenhouse (20°C) and keep them inside for maybe 1 or 2 years
