My first pindo. Been growing nicely since planting a few months ago. Working on the 3rd new fond.

Got some that are touching ground.

Need to know when to prune.

I'm in Greenville SC.

Hi James,

Nice pindo!  Only cut off leaves that have completely turned brown as it is still able to obtain nutrients from a dying frond.  My 7' Butia odorata has been in the ground over 3 years and I've only cut off one or two leaves while it has added several more than that.   Since your Butia is relatively small I would provide some protection for it when it goes below 20° during its first winter.  It should be able to handle colder temps next year though when it's established.

No need to trim unless they are brown or look too unsightly. More fronds = more growth. I take a couple off per year that get pushed down to ground level.
