The7thLegend 77 Report post Posted November 23, 2020 Can anyone tell me what is the shortest "trunking" Sabal Palm that I can use in zone 8b/9a? I have sabal minor, serenoa repens, etc but I'm looking for a quicker trunking Sabal that stays short. Sabal Bermudana, Palmetto, Riverside, or whatever? A Sabal that will trunk but not grow to skyscraper heights. Thanks.
TexasColdHardyPalms 3,148 Report post Posted November 23, 2020 No sabal will trunk fast then stop. Sabal Brazoria is closest to what you're looking for.
Swolte 372 Report post Posted November 23, 2020 Brazoria is great, however, I learned there's great variability in length. Here's a pic I took at JFGardens of Brazoria sabal about a year ago and I was told most are the same age.
DallasPalms 32 Report post Posted November 23, 2020 Sabal Birmingham grows really slow from what I've read. Not sure how tall though. I noticed in Dallas there aren't many very tall sabals I think climate affects how tall some will get @ winter or no winter. Cant go wrong with a nice Pindo.
