Photos of palms in Northern California in the San Francisco Bay Area - Ceroxylon, Hedyscepe, Parajubaea, and.... Pinanga?! (What?!) Galore!

I had the privilege of traveling to Northern California a couple weeks ago to see so many amazing palms. I started off at a private garden in Berkeley, CA and saw a few roadside attractions in the area as well, followed by a brisk walk through the Lakeside Palmetum in Oakland, CA. After that, I headed in to the city of San Francisco to see the new Salesforce Park beneath the 1,070 foot Salesforce Tower, then headed to a few private homes and ended the journey with Jim's absolutely STUNNING garden in Los Altos where he has palms that seem marginal even in Southern California! All the pictures can be found in the link below and included some highlights in this post.

Thank you for the feedback! My camera situation is currently an iPhone as I realized it takes better photos now than my canon! Hopefully I'll buy a "real" camera within the next year.

Yes, it is in parlous condition.  :(   No spear leaf at this moment.  It has one spathe that has been very slowly enlarging but the late Dick Endt told me that none of his palms at LandsEndt had ever made seed.

The geographical location for this colorful form is a very small area, south of Loja, near the border with Peru.  it is right off the highway, I could describe the location so easily that one wouldn't need even to write down the info.   I went there a few years ago, but no ripe seed, or even active spadices.

Next time someone is planning a trip to Ecuador, contact me for the precise details of the location.
