Marojejya darianii germination

Hello fellow palm folk, I'm getting some Marojejya darianii seed, and wondering if anyone has tried germinating these in baggies? I will be trying a few in a polystyrene container set up, but also baggies, let me know your thoughts, cheers :shaka-2:

Both ways work for this palm. I personally have seen them started in a baggie and once they sprout they go into pots

Hi, I've germinated these twice before, both times baggy method in peat moss. Easy germination and within a month if fresh. Despite these guys being bog palms, they need to be kept on the dry side to grow well. My experience, they are very prone to root rot. So we'll drained soil is the key and don't overwater.

This is my procedure, not sure if works yet. Can update soonish as at Step 1.

Step 1: Soak :) for 24 hours (as per picture - red bucket)

Step 2: Remove seeds from bucket and put them in tray with fungicide bath. Usually just 10mins.

Step 3: Get flat storage box with lid (like photo)

Step 4: Add mixture of Coir/Peat/perlite, just damp. (Like photo)

Step 5: Put lid on keep in safe out of direct sun and check in couple weeks. Usually spray with some more fungicide.

Step 6: Once Germinated (small root), I will pot up in a potting mix with perlite and peat.

All preparations done now. Will keep you updated on germination. :)

Hopefully will take about 3-4 weeks.

Had a check. 2 have popped :) hopefully more soon. The two that popped just potted up with mix of perlite/potting mix/coir. 140mm pots.

Haven’t germinated these as mine have yet to seed, although it should be soon I suspect. I use the baggie method with good quality sphagnum moss as well as throwing seed in a potting medium straight away.

Good drainage is the key here as these palms thrive with lots of water. Our annual rainfall is around 3800mm ( 150”) and they become monsters.

Good luck, such amazing palms.

My method in these boxes is just the giant baggie method :) .

Update.

Had 25 seeds.

8 germinate with button and I moved from germinate box to small pots.

Checked the 8
4 have roots and shoot
1 still only has button
3 have died with larvae coming out of them. Not sure could be borer/weevil

Photo below of the larvae.

Anyone have idea how to kill pests within seeds or on them pre planting?

Note: I did spray with eco-oil but doesn’t  seem to do anything.
