A few photos of Bill Austin’s garden

Recommended Posts

Hilo Jason

Just wanted to post a few photos from a recent trip to Bill Austin’s garden here on the Big Island.  I was there in the morning so the sun was in a good spot to catch some quick pictures of some of his amazing palms.  Enjoy.

And a special thanks to Bill for being very gracious when it comes to sharing his garden.

We were lucky enough to tour Bill's garden years ago.  What a World class garden and host!  Thanks for posting pics.

What species is this with the long petioles on the left? It looks awesome.

Correct!  And the fattest I have ever seen. This palm has been on palmtalk many times in the past and when a person is in the picture it really shows the scale of this massive Dypsis!

Hey Lars,

that is a Metroxylon Amicarum. The only Metroxylon that does not die after going into seed.

Hey Tracy, hopefully Bill sees this and can give some more info. This is definitely a Ravenea and I believe it might be the same as what we have all bought over the years as Ravenea Juliettae. Not sure that is exactly what it is, but looks similar to me.
