Is it possible to cut a 6-foot or more tall trunk/stem and root it to start another plant; say like what is often done with cactus?

Thanks.

They normally pup like crazy. Why not just cut out a pup and start new?

I have some "trunking" ones that have produced several offsets.  When moving a few of them a couple of offsets came off by accident. I replanted them and they seem to be growing okay about a month later.  That might be an easy way for you to propagate them.

I do not currently have a plant in my yard, but do occasionally see cut trunks on the side of the road from time to time and started wondering if it was possible.

Thanks for all the responses.

Yes.

I lopped off several 6-7ft shoots with an axe, no roots, just had some chunks of the base attached. I stuck them into 15g pots. All of them grew into new plants.

These things are tough. Not sure if the trunk itself would root if you cut it in the middle, but as long as you get a bit of the base mass with it, it will grow new roots. But try it, you're not losing anything by trying.

Great question!

Maybe put a wanted notice on NextDoor or Craigslist for some pups?
