Oh, it's been raining off and on all day long, but I'm not impressed yet! :P  They said 5-10 inches, and unless it really picks up VERY soon that's not going to happen. I check my rain gauge at 8 a.m. every morning, and that's another 10 hours away, so I'll post an update then. Hopefully it'll be a big number... :)

Leilani Estates, 25 mls/40 km south of Hilo, Big Island of Hawai'i. Elevation 880 ft/270 m. Average rainfall 140 inches/3550 mm

2.95 inches of rain over the last 24 hours. Not exactly what they were talking about, but more than what we've had in a long time, and certainly enough to give everything a thorough soaking!

Edit: should have mentioned that we're still getting brief intermittent showers, and for all I know that may contiinue throughout the day.

Al in Kona here letting you know we got some good rains (over 3" or 76.2mm) off and on for several days as tropical depression Cosme came thru.  Previous to that we had received some decent afternoon convective rain showers (typical for this time of year) so things are growing well.  I'm always glad for all the rain we get cuz we aren't located in normally rainy East Hawaii. However, upslope (mauka) Kona isn't what you might call dry either as some areas receive up to 80" a year on average.  A good part of that happens during the summer rather than the winter season, very different from most of the rest of Hawaii.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!
