One of our attendees described it as a Green Bismarckia on steroids.  I should also add the photos were taken by other attendees.

Any idea how old this palm is?  What size it was planted out at?

Good questions.  @waykoolplantz, care to elaborate?

So far, these have been tested to 29F by @Central Floridave and @cfkingfish: Freeze Damage Forums - Tahina spectabilis

Might make a good roll of the dice where I'm at, temperature-wise, but removal if it survived to the flowering stage would be a lot of "fun"

I believe these were from the first seed batch available in 2008, making them ~12 years old.

When I first started growing palms 20 years ago I used to read that some of the larger species were not recommended for private yards as they were too big.  I used to say naaaah, not too big.  A corypha and this tahina are palms that I consider definitely way too big for my yard.  I think 2 acres is the starting point for these monsters.  You should be able to view the palm in your own yard from 100' away or more to see it as it puts on trunk.  If its 40' wide and has 15' leaves, only my neighbors would get the view after it trunked.  I also would want it 100' from the house if it were large.  The way this ones is growing after 12 years is FAST.  Great palm!  Its gets my nod for the most awesome palm I have seen.

Formerly in Gilbert AZ, zone 9a/9b. Now in Palmetto, Florida Zone 9b/10a??

For scale, this member is close to 6 feet tall.  Folks traveled from as far away as Jacksonville and Land O' Lakes to take their turn posing with this palm.

That's HUGE!   I'm sure if one of mine had sprouted and I put it in the ground it would NOT have been given enough room to view.  LOL  I didn't pay much attention to future size back then.  LOL
