More naturalized Sabal Minor and Needle Palm in Greensboro, NC

NCFM

Recommended Posts

Back in 2003, a few dozen sabal minors were planted along the banks of Lake Brandt in Greensboro, NC (Elevation 892' zone 7b/8a). They have since naturalized, and there are probably now over 200 specimens in the area, along with a few needle palms which also seem to have naturalized.

Here are some pictures I took yesterday while hiking the trails around the lake:

I love seeing palms naturalize in an area, especially these two species.

There are lots of nice dwarf palmetto specimens on the other side of Greensboro as well. These photos were captured alongside the Bicentennial Greenway on either side of Piedmont Parkway. It's pretty neat because I don't remember these existing several years ago.

I thought I left a message yesterday but I guess I didn't push the send button .

So what I was wanted to say is that I have a nice walking trail near my house where I could throw some Minor  seed around . That would be a nice legacy for me to have palms naturalizing  all around that park   that features a stream similar to  where you planted your palms . Mine end up , for the most part . being weeds ,  so I might as well disperse them for others to enjoy   .

Will, your neighbor in Winston-Salem .:)

Instead of making a new thread I’ll just post them here, last week I took some pics of native needles and minors in A small town in the Florida Panhandle.
