Jubaea hooks...

I've been growing a BxJ for the last 10 years (or more) and it wasn't until recently that it started to produce leaves with hooks.  All leaves prior were hookless. Is this normal?  Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought only pure Jubaeas had hooks.   Thanks!

I have a Jubutiagrus and Jubaea x Syagrus. They both display the hooks but also not until they are at least 4 years in the ground and even then they are not on every frond. The late Dr Wilcox told me that if the hooks are present this is hold over from some Jubaea in the mix

Thank you for this information.   Very interesting.  The BxJ palm is really pretty.      I bet your jubutiagrus is beautiful!!
