Small Dypsis with reddish color

Recommended Posts

I acquired this palm from the Flora Grubb nursery here in San Francisco.  They told me it came from Kevin Weaver.  Kevin told me that it was Dypsis onilahensis x baronii, and that it had originated in the garden of the late Louis Hooper.

Anyone else who can contribute additional information?  Thanks

I got nothing either. Looks like dypsis black stem. The only thing wrong with it is that its not in my garden...

I was thinking that too. It looks like it got the best traits from a few dypsis. My psamo has or had ( havent looked at it in a while) a trunk like that but the crown wasnt nearly as colorful.

It looks like what I would expect a D baronii x onilahensis to look like (without having seen or even heard of one before). Very cool!

She’s a beauty. Always interesting to see a clustering palm as a single stem.

Seems pretty similar to my mystery palm that I bought from JM as a potential D. onilahensis x baronii hybrid. Mine is clumping and much smaller. I posted about this guy seeking a potential ID. When I bought it, I didn’t get a strong sense that they truly knew the parentage.
