Washingtonia Robusta Removal Hazards

Probably palm removal. But it almost looks staged to me. Like the head of the palm was tied to the ground and preloaded the trunk, so when the head was cute off, it release the stored. energy in the trunk

If that were the case, I wonder why he would saw off his side of the rope.

I don't think any rope was used pulling the palm down. 100ft+ crown, seeded crown weight, plus a 200lbs climber likely made the palm bend like that. I've trimmed many tall W. robustas and the amount of flexibility the trunk has is quite insane. I have pruned off full seeded crowns from a bucket truck and the head will easily move away from me 10' with just the seed weight removed.

On a side note, this dude has balls of steel and was seriously asking for a death wish haha

I never trimmed anything that tall back when I climbed but I know that feeling as the tree sways back and forth several times and it's not as violent as you'd think watching. It's actually a kinda cool feeling. The worst ones I've seen are when a climber is way out on a branch of a regular tree and slips swinging into the trunk like a pendulum. The sudden stop is brutal.

When I was a kid we'd go out in the woods and climb tall skinny saplings of Maple trees. Climb as high as possible keeping our weight from tipping the tree. Then reach up as high as possible and grab hold tightly then swing our weight away from the trunk just holding on with our hands. The sapling would bend over and we'd slowly land (or close enough to let go and land).

I went to climbing school in college with nuts that would do crazy things up in trees I'd never even consider trying. They'd love that Robusta ride!
