This palm has been in the ground about ten years. It was a squatter Seedling growing in a pot of something else so I stuck it in the ground. About 7 years ago at the society meeting brahea brandegeei was suggested. It’s bigger now so I’m hoping to pin it down.

the petioles are armoured- but at this point they feel more like bumps than the jagged sharp livistona type armor. There’s like a “fuzz” on the petioles too.

The leaf bases are super hard to remove-

It’s growing in a pretty shaded area- you can see it’s a bit stretched out.

And the underside of the leaves have a definite silver hue..

Brahea looks right. As for species I’m not sure, but looks a bit like aculeata.

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

Yeah, I missed that in the photos. B. nitida has very smooth petioles for sure.

Yeah the petioles are not smooth. There are definite bumps, although nothing that would ever draw blood or even grab onto a shirt as you p[ass by... like most armour...
