Stumped on issue with a Travelers

Palmaceae

Recommended Posts

The new leaves in my Ravenala madagascariensis are opening deformed, like the leaf has been eaten in half. Did this the last couple weeks. I am stumped, any ideas? It just was fertilized over a month ago and it otherwise healthy and no signs of insects.

I don't know but you may have guessed it, it may be insect damage. I have had similar soft plants being eaten before they emerge.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

I've had issues with white bird of paradise getting fertilizer burn from too much 10-10-10.  On mine it looked like burn near the ends of the leaves.  If it happened a week or so after you fertilized, I suppose that could be it.

You've planted it too deep or the mulch is too high, either way, clear the base of the red stuff. Mulch should never be applied that thick directly against a plant.

Looks like bug damage BTW.
