Potted Lytocaryum pest identification

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Weeks ago I've noticed springtails in my Lytocaryums pots, now there is something else inside too. Shall I kill it with fire? It looks like a mite but it's white, runs fast and is quite huge, bigger than springtails.
Is that something super deadly, or some soil living creature that won't kill my gems?

Please help :O

Sorry for the picture quality, it is even worse when I try to upload it here.

These things are white and huge, looks spidery, and are actively walking on the top of the soil too.

I remember I've read somewhere about predatory mites that kills spider mites for example. It really does remind me of these? I have no idea. Does look like it was hunting for other insects in the pot.

My guys look exactly like this ugly mite here:

I think it could be a predatory mite.
Insects that eat plants usually don't have to run very fast.:P

Thanks for response. I had no idea I can get friendly insects just like that :)

Mate, just a suggestion that may help you to identify those buggers, Shiver may be right but you may need to kill one, spray it with something, then use whatever magnification you have, Loupe? just to make sure. Some beneficial bugs resemble destructive ones, as I am sure that you know, so you/we really need a pic of your specific one but not one that looks like it. Not that I can help you even then.

What I think that you need is a close up pic of the bug, that is the first step, then you could probably identify it on line as quickly as anyone else on here.  I hope that this helps you.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.
