Monsters to-be in our yards

Recommended Posts

Wanted to start a thread about (imminently) huge palms we currently have planted in our yards which are seedlings or juveniles.

I'll begin with 5 cocoa nucifera and an alfie which, after being stunted for 3 years, seems to be taking off.

There are so many, though, what's a monster?

Maybe in the eye of the beholder?

"Soon to be" monsters planted in palmtalkers yards.

Small palms as seedlings, juveniles, but grow into huge palms. (CIDP and J. Chilensis not included).

I have examples that I love.

Here's Butch my Roystonea, handy helper for scale.

That's cheatin'!

That is a titan.  We're talking monsters to be. Small runts which, God-willing, will turn out to be massive (at least leaf-wise).

I have no monsters to be that are currently little.  Monsters is what you plant first, I stopped planting them a long time ago.  As far as alfredii being a monster, yeah its possible, but in cramped quarters, probably not so much.  Alfredii needs real estate, room to grow.  Small roots mostly mean smaller palm, roystonea included.  I have seen 20 yrs plus royals that are 12" caliper and 15 year ones at 30".
