Not the best photo.  It's the palm on the far left.

A few of mine. They need shade here as summer skies are almost always clear and these yellow out in full sun. A great sturdy species otherwise.

Hi there,

we have a countless number of them on this island - in parks, in gardens and many more in the wild - so nothing special but nevertheless

a great looking species. It is storm proof and I have never seen a sick or infested one. It was one of the first I collected seeds from when

I started with palms and I don't regret it to have them planted in my garden, too.

This one should be now five or six years old, I moved it three times until I found the right spot - it never flinched and never stopped growing.

lc002.jpg.e6631cafa472a8110fadfdd438db6184.jpg

Since they look pretty cool when growing in shade I placed this one at this spot on purpose.

During the lock down I had plenty of time so I built this fence/wall combination you can see in the back. I had to cut

many leaves to work properly but I am sure it will be fine.

best regards from Okinawa -

Lars

Impressive! In how many years you guess mine will reach the size of the big one you have now?

Here's mine (6 USD!) also in mostly shade on east side of house.  I'm my opinion they look better as juveniles!  It's also planted too close to the house!

I really like mine! Even though it's common they are very tropical looking and hardy. Mine has been in this spot for 5 years and I think it will be showing trunk pretty soon.

Palm snobs like me tend to scorn L. chinensis, since they're common, but they're actually great in a lot of ways, especially if you're in a place that gets cold in the winter. They are startlingly cold-hardy. Had one in San Berdoo that survived a nasty low-20s FF series of freezes, no problem.

Slow, but treat that as a blessing. @Chris Chance's picture shows a great treatment for one. It maintains visual interest at ground level for a long while, instead of turning into a towering column like some other palms do.

If you're trying to get someone interested in palms, they're a nice gifty plant. Hard to kill, and pretty, can't beat that.
