Here is a photo of a very old specimen growing at Fota Gardens, in the south of Ireland.  It was already 5.5 metres high when it was measured in 1966.

Hi Marion, that's a nice lush looking specimen.  It doesn't look like it's growing in a very dry climate to me, looking at those conifers.

To post a full-size image from your gallery, just copy and paste the url of the page, add .jpg to the end, then select the whole address and press the image button.  Not sure if it works with webshots though.  I use pbase.  Otherwise, you have to shrink your photo to 100kb to post it here.

Kris,

Good looking CIDPs!  I have a couple of those red fruit CIDP from M@x as well and can't wait till they get big enough to put into the ground.   This is a great thread as CIPDs are one of my favorite palms.  I need to find the CIPD pictures I took in California, when I do I'll post them.  Have a great weekend.  Jv

Dear Jv  :)

thanks for those lovely cidp still.and the cidp seen in front right side corner of your still is it a male form ? it looks bit different than the rest of the clang ?

And do you have any idea at what age & size will that cidp fruit or flower ? the barrel that you see in my stills will a cidp fruit or flower in that sized container ? since i do not want to plant a non seeding male form of cidp in our house garden !

this inforamtion is very vital for me since 2 weeks back my cal date palm flowered after 8 years in ground ? and i have one more date palm who's gender is not yet known.so to avoide such confussion in future i want to take this precaution..now itself  :)

thanks & love,

Kris  :)

Kris,

My CIDP (in frame #72) is eleven years old and last year was the first time it bloomed for me.  Mine turned out to be male...   I would imagine that your phx would need to be in bigger pots to bloom.  Ten year old CIDPs are usually pretty big!

I am not sure if the CIDP in the above picture (#76) is male or female.  I've never seen it in seed...  yes it does look bigger than the rest of them.

Here is another different CIDP also at the Mirage Hotel.  Check out it's curvy trunk.  Jv
