Actually- that was the one I didn’t get from Kevin. I’ve had for a while- I think- maybe- I got it from Justen Dobbs- he used to run Seabreeze nursery in Fort Myers Florida.

not sure if he’s still around-

Next up was a bunch of Encephalartos. There’s a hill in the yard that is mostly granite- so with a pick axe and a digging bar I finally populated it- now aptly named “Encephalartos Hill”. Here’s the order of pics:

Unknown

Arinarius

Chamani x munchii x munchii

Aemulans x trispinosus

Aemulans x lehmanii

Unknown

Msinganus

Very nice selections! That 'Enceplahartos Hill' is a nice touch to your already beautiful garden :greenthumb:

Your Copernicia Prunifera looks awfully similar to mine... :floor:

I'm curious to see how fast these grow. I heard there painfully slow. With you a whole zone higher than me I suspect double the speed of mine? If I can even keep mine alive LOL.

it does look very similar! Even down to the blue KW palms tag :)

I've hear these really like the heat... so it might be really happy there. Looks like a protected spot...

They do look similar!  My C. prunifera was a bit smaller than yours when I planted it 2 years ago.  They don't mind 100+F summer temps (107 here three straight days).  It's not speedy but coming along nicely.

@doubravsky, it was my prime spot in my yard. South facing & has some overhead protection as well. Fingers crossed!

Thanks James - I have a Hyphaene coriacia in the ground 18 months, but only 2 strap-leaves so far so not really photo-worthy yet.  Grew it from a seed collected at Kopsick.  The prunifera came from a seed collected in Natal, Brasil back in 2014.  One of 3 "international" palms I have in the ground at the moment!

I think your holding out on us Jon :P you surprise me every time! Wow Brasil! Very cool. I just stepped up my game on seed growing & hopefully I can plant a few out in a year or 2. Especially the Sabal Guatemalensis & Sabal Mexicana i got from this very generous Texan guy ;)

If you have additional places you can plant some of the Encephalartos on your "E hill", you may want to consider spacing them out a little more.  It can get tricky if you have no path between them to weed, trim, pollinate or repair irrigation when planted too close.   Some of these will get big in no time at all.  For perspective, a pair of E arenarius that in 2010 were both probably 1.5"-2" caudex and now have the spread below.  It's tricky weeding around these guys or doing irrigation repairs even with them isolated, but if they are surrounded by other Encephalartos, you will need to get out the full body armor.  The trispinosis hybrid sounds like it will even be armor penetrating :floor:

Good thinking! There is a little space at the lower left corner, but.... that may end up being a problem. And the slope is steep enough and the DG is slippery enough, it's already hard to move around up there.

Great advice Tracy.

Garden design and spacing for the future, not the current. Great advice of which I did not listen very well.
