Looks amazing!  I'd love one as well, I just have a large palapa umbrella.  What's going in the structure?

Nothing permanent right now, just some yard furniture and a hammock. Toying with building out a bar to one side B)

That's awesome maybe a  glass float ball hanging from the peak and maybe some tiki's and rum drinks perhaps Gilligan and the skipper might even stop by.  Nothing like coming home to a vacation spot good job. Looking forward to the updates

@Josue Diaz how's that roof going? Any updates?

In New Zealand this type of hut would be called a whare (house) by the Maori people. They had wharenui (big house) and wharepuni (sleeping house). In many parts of NZ They would make them out of fallen Rhopalostylis leaves, not dissimilar to their distant cousins and ancestors from Hawaii / Hawaiki.

Very cool! Yeah we finished it. now just need to hang the hammock up, and plant some tender palms around the (now) heavily shaded sides.

Very cool. Why brahea leaves in particular?

Keep us updated with pics!

We chose brahea because that's what is available locally. We wanted fan leaves (as opposed to feather) because we want it to be waterproof, if you layer them correctly you can have a pretty tight fit and water won't get through when it rains. A grower here has a field of armata that was in need of a trim, but they threw in a a few washingtonia and sabal. I'd say 90% is brahea armata though.

@Josue Diaz that is cool! Wowee wow!

Please, for the love of everything, keep open flames away.

I use Brahea and other leaves for kindling in my fireplaces and BBQ. If there's a way to fireproof it, let me know. Might want to do something similar.

I honestly don't think there's any way to fireproof it lol. i don't live in chaparral like most of Californians do, so the risk of fire is much lower.
