Interesting article on the solar cycle: https://nypost.com/2020/05/14/the-sun-has-entered-a-lockdown-period-which-could-cause-freezing-weather-famine/amp/

Apparently the sun is going through a weak period. When this happened in the early 19th century global temperatures dropping by 2f.

Thank you for sharing!  Hopefully this doesn't mean another 1985 or 1989, but we'll get what we get.

But how would that interact with the current global warming that's at play?

Well, it's global warming if it's hot and it's global warming if it is cold.

Great quote!

It is hard to take in that 'scientists' would admit that there could be a cooling event on the way.

I'm not knocking scientists, and I'm not a outright climate change denier, but I do understand that it is human nature to stand by an argument you have made for a long time and refuse to acknowledge that it might not be quite correct or paint the full story :hmm: .

Most scientists like to agree that man made climate change is a thing, which is fine by me, but I wish more would acknowledge that that big bright ball in the sky has a much greater impact on our climate (and is one we have zero control over).

Yikes, NYP is a little more tabloid-y than I’m comfortable with. Did you see at the bottom where they previously claimed there would be earthquakes?

I’ll try to dig up a more reliable source.

Update: looks like UCSD has our back!
