Sago crown damaged

Recommended Posts

I wanted my husband to clean up the seed pods on a female sago. I showed him the seeds and "fuzzy" parts to remove and went to the backyard to do weeding. He misunderstood and removed the crown (see photos). I'm assuming it will die?

Wow. Just wow. I wish I was knowledgable enough about cycads (the sago is a cycad, not a palm) to know whether your plant can survive that kind of damage to its central growth area. That may depend on whether the stem has been fatally damaged.

I suggest you post this topic in "Other Tropical Plants" subforum where it will be seen by more people. We have some knowledgable cycad growers here, too. Good luck.
